If you are a media disputes lawyer with c. 6 years' PQE (ad potentially much more) in defamation, privacy, contempt and related reputational risks, and you are looking to transition into (or deepen your work in) TV content compliance and pre-publication / pre-broadcast review, this is a standout opportunity!
About the Role
As a senior member of the firm, you will:
- Help develop the Legal & Compliance Department, shaping its strategy, processes and long-term growth especially as regards its litigation offering.
- Provide high-level legal and regulatory advice across defamation, privacy, contempt, reporting restrictions, newsgathering, copyright, Ofcom regulation and broader compliance issues.
- Develop and hone your experience of pre-broadcast and pre-publication review for a wide slate of programmes, including news, current affairs, factual entertainment and documentaries.
- Work closely with the CEO and senior management on firm-wide strategy, policy, compliance frameworks and business development especially as regards litigation.
- Represent the firm at industry events and panels, strengthening its brand and industry relationships.
About You
You will be:
- A solicitor (England & Wales) with at least 6+ years’ PQE in media litigation (and potentially much more), including a strong track record in defamation, privacy and contempt matters. You are likely to currently sit in a Senior Associate or salaried partner position.
- Experienced in advising broadcasters, production companies, publishers or other media organisations on high-stakes, sensitive and fast-moving disputes.
- Either experienced or interested in developing a strong skillset in editorial, reputational and regulatory issues, especially across TV or VOD compliance, pre-transmission review or regulatory liaison.
- An accomplished communicator with exceptional drafting abilities, sound commercial judgment and the confidence to provide decisive guidance.
