LEGAL COUNSEL
FILM STUDIO
2-4 YEARS’ PQE

OPEN TO FILM, TV, BANKING OR CORPORATE LAWYERS
 
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the legal and business affairs team of a highly regarded independent film and television studio with an outstanding international reputation. Working across development, production, financing, sales and distribution, the business partners with leading writers, directors, producers and on-screen talent to deliver ambitious, commercially successful content for global audiences.

This is a broad and varied role offering exposure across the full life-cycle of scripted film and television projects. You'll work closely with senior legal and business affairs executives, providing commercially focused legal support on high-profile productions as well as strategic corporate initiatives.

The Role
Key responsibilities include:

  • Negotiating and drafting IP option agreements, writer agreements and other development contracts
  • Supporting production teams on a wide range of production legal matters, including talent, crew, location and other third-party agreements
  • Negotiating and drafting key talent agreements, including producer, director and lead cast agreements
  • Assisting with financing transactions, corporate restructurings and M&A activity as the business continues to grow
  • Maintaining and updating precedent documentation, templates and legal guidance in line with current law and best practice
  • Advising on a broad range of commercial, contractual and dispute-related matters as they arise

About You

We are interested in speaking with:

  • Qualified solicitors with legal and business affairs experience gained within the film or scripted television industry; or
  • Corporate, finance or transactional lawyers from leading private practice firms with a genuine passion for film and television and a desire to move in-house.

You will also demonstrate:

  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Strong organisational abilities with the capacity to manage multiple priorities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a methodical approach.
  • The confidence to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues across the business.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex legal issues into practical commercial advice.
  • A positive, approachable and proactive attitude.
