TV COMMISSIONING/PRODUCTION LAWYER
NON-SCRIPTED & SCRIPTED
2+ YEARS PQE (OR EQUIVALENT)

We have an excellent opportunity for a TV production or commissioning lawyer (or Business Affairs Executive/Manager) to join the BALA International team of our global media client.
You will play a pivotal role in supporting the commissioning of unscripted, scripted and sports content for a diverse portfolio of channels (linear and non-linear) and services.
Responsibilities:
As a key member of the BALA team, you'll be responsible for a wide range of activities, including:
- Drafting, negotiating, and advising on various development, acquisition, and production agreements
- Reviewing chain of title documents and underlying rights agreements
- Providing guidance and advice on rights and legal matters to commissioning teams
- Supporting various finance arrangements
- Managing compliance and governance obligations within UK and US frameworks
- Maintaining strong relationships with program suppliers and key stakeholders
- Updating company precedents and advising on changes in relevant laws
- Assisting in the training and development of junior team members
- Collaborating with outside legal counsel when necessary
To excel in this role, you should possess:
- Demonstrable experience in drafting and negotiating rights agreements in the media industry
- Strong knowledge of rights issues, contract law, copyright law, and distribution
- Familiarity with media compliance laws, including the Ofcom Code and PACT
- Excellent drafting skills and the ability to communicate complex legal advice concisely
- A flexible, team-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail
- Resilience and the ability to handle pressure in a calm and effective manner
